A Water Safety Ireland accredited Pool Lifeguard qualification.
Introduction
The National Pool Lifeguard (PLG) Award is a Water Safety Ireland (WSI) accredited qualification. Cork Lifeguard Academy draws on the experience of our Tutors to provide this course. Teaching you life-long skills and qualifying you to work as a Pool Lifeguard.
The aim of the Award is to enable you to act as a designated Lifeguard, trained in Pool Rescue and Basic Life Support techniques. You, the Lifeguard, will also have an awareness of First Aid and Pool Water Analysis.
Entry Level
To participate in the PLG Award course, as per the Water Safety
Ireland syllabus, the Minimum Standard Entry Level is:
Be able to swim 100 metres on front (prone) and 100 metres on back (supine).
Be able to swim 50 metres (prone) within 60 seconds (1 Minute).
Be able to surface dive and recover an object from the deepest part of the pool.
Be 16 years of age, or older, at the time of the examination.
(Note: Prior learning and training, such as Rescue 2 or equivalent, are preferred but not compulsory.)
